Question 54: What do you believe concerning the holy catholic Church?
Answer: That the Son of God1, out of the whole human race2, from the beginning to the end of the world3, gathers, defends, and preserves to Himself4, by His Spirit and Word5, in the unity of the true faith6, a Church chosen to everlasting life7, and that I am8, and forever shall remain, a living member thereof9.

Question 55: What do you understand by the communion of saints?
Answer: First, that believers, all and every one, as members of Christ, are partakers of Him and of all His treasures and gifts1; second, that every one must know himself bound to employ his gifts, readily and cheerfully for the advantage and salvation of other members2.
11Jn. 1:3, That which we have seen and heard declare we unto you, that ye also may have fellowship with us: and truly our fellowship [is] with the Father, and with his Son Jesus Christ.
Rom. 8:32, He that spared not His own Son, but delivered Him up for us all, how shall He not with Him also freely give us all things?

Question 56: What do you believe concerning the forgiveness of sins?
Answer: That God, for the sake of Christ's satisfaction, will no more remember my sins, neither my sinful nature, against which I have to struggle all my life long1; but will graciously grant unto me the righteousness of Christ2, that I may never come into condemnation3.
11 John 1:7, But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship one with another, and the blood of Jesus Christ his Son cleanseth us from all sin.
